2023 Audi e-tron Cons -

The use of the infotainment system can be annoying.

There is less regenerative braking power than in many other EVs.

Estimated driving range is inferior to leading competitors.

2023 Audi e-tron What's Fresh -

A carryover model for 2023 is the e-tron.

A 2019 release from the first e-tron generation.

When it first appeared on the market a few years ago, the Audi e-tron was among the first electric SUVs, outpacing a number of competitors from both mainstream and premium automakers. Although it is not the largest SUV available, it has a quality appearance and feel that other EVs find difficult to match.

Two electric motors provide power to every e-tron. Every e-tron has all-wheel drive thanks to one at the front axle and one at the back. A 95-kWh battery pack that is positioned low to the car's floor powers the electric motors. The combined output of the electric motors is 414 lb-ft of torque and 355 horsepower. However, the Sport gearbox mode unlocks a boost function that produces 402 horsepower and 490 lb-ft of torque for up to 8 seconds. The e-motors tron's provide power smoothly, unlike other modern EVs, which can be frighteningly speedy.

It also has a long number of wonderful features. Standard features include leather upholstery, smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a digital gauge cluster display that can be customized. As you progress through the e-various tron's trim levels and option packages, you can add other luxuries like an improved Bang & Olufsen audio system, a head-up display, and massaging front seats.

Even as it becomes older, the e-tron has a lot of positive qualities. However, several of its competitors have caught up in some areas and now provide comparable technology and a much more range than the EPA-estimated 222 miles of the e-tron. The e-tron also performed well in our standardised Edmunds range test, travelling 248 miles on a single charge; however, this is still significantly less than the range of a BMW iX or Rivian R1S. To learn more about the successes and failures of the 2023 e-tron, see the Expert Rating provided below by our test team.

2023 Audi e-tron Performance  7.5/10 -

How is the e-tron propelled? We like the e-tron because it moves quickly in a smooth and modest manner. However, the way it corners makes you immediately aware of its curb weight of 5,822 pounds. While modern EVs have discovered a way to increase confidence through the pedal itself, we have found that the brakes are still sufficiently powerful. The maximum regenerative braking setting is also insufficient to support real one-pedal driving, in which practically all regular stops can be made by gently depressing the accelerator. This is lacking the cool and entertaining EV attribute. Even if it's not a deal-breaker, it's a squandered chance. Fortunately, the steering is precise and quick in normal driving conditions, which makes weaving this EV through traffic simple.

2023 Audi e-tron Comfort 9.0/10 -

Exactly how cosy is the e-tron? The e-tron is a really cosy machine. On a variety of road surfaces, its air suspension provides a refined and stable ride, and the cabin is oh-so-quiet without feeling like a sensory-deprivation chamber. Although it is quiet inside, the cabin's background resonance gives it a cosy feeling, if that makes sense.

2023 Audi e-tron Comfort

The luxurious and comfortable seats will appeal to both the driver and the passengers, and the quad-zone temperature control system is effective enough to keep everyone happy with their level of comfort. The fact that Audi didn't cut corners in this area is encouraging because we don't frequently encounter the latter in all-electric SUVs.

2023 Audi e-tron Interior 8.0/10 -

How is the inside? The Audi excels at many simple tasks. The seats are at the ideal height, and the door openings are squared off beautifully, making it simple to get in and out of. Passengers will have plenty of space, while the driver will benefit from a comfortable driving position and an unhindered vision.

On the other hand, there are a variety of controls. While many of the smaller buttons are functional, the drive mode changer is unusual and takes some getting used to. On the other hand, touchscreen interfaces are overly favoured by the entertainment and climate control systems. Despite their excessive complexity, they have a beautiful appearance.

2023 Audi e-tron Technology 8.0/10 -

How is the tech? The remainder of the setup is good, but we wish the touchscreen interface included a few hard shortcut buttons and perhaps a tuning knob. The audio system has superb sound quality, and the navigation charts it presents are exquisite. There are several convenient USBs, and even the ones in the backseat can transmit data to the front, which is a cool feature few other cars provide. Android Auto and wireless CarPlay are also available.

2023 Audi e-tron Technology

Driver assistance features include automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic monitoring and intervention, and lane keeping assist as part of the standard accident avoidance technology. The lane centering feature of the optional adaptive cruise control eases the slog of interstate traffic. We did have a few instances where the car's front collision warning system honked at us even though there was nothing in front of it, so we would prefer a little more finesse from Audi's safety features.

2023 Audi e-tron Storage 8.0/10 -

The storage situation? You might not even realise the Audi e-tron is an electric vehicle. When you fold the seats, the volume of the 28.5-cubic-foot cargo compartment expands to a comfortable size. Under the hood, there is a tiny cargo area as well.

Apart from the little cupholders, there is a fair bit of ingenious storage space within. But when it comes to installing kid safety seats, the e-tron excels. Although the e-tron can tow 4,000 pounds, quick charging stations are not suitable for cars pulling trailers. But you can undoubtedly attach a bike rack on the hitch.

2023 Audi e-tron Range and Efficiency 6.5/10 -

How are the efficiency and range? The EPA estimates the all-wheel-drive e-tron Quattro's range to be 222 miles when it is outfitted with the standard 20-inch wheels, which is what our test vehicle had. On our standardised real-world EV range test route, we travelled 248 miles on a single charge, exceeding the EPA's prediction. This suggests that even while the e-tron has less range than much of its rivals, it should still achieve its range estimates when operated cautiously and in mild climes.

2023 Audi e-tron Range and Efficiency

Efficiency, or how much power is used while driving, isn't quite as good as in recent EVs. With the exception of the Rivian R1T, we found that 38.4 kWh were consumed for every 100 miles of driving, which is a lower efficiency than virtually every EV we've tested.

2023 Audi e-tron Value 7.0/10 -

The e-tron has an 11-kW onboard charger that Audi says can charge from empty to full on a Level 2 home EVSE in around 10 hours (if you have the necessary hardware and favourable conditions). Additionally, it has a DC fast-charging capacity of up to 150 kW and can maintain that pace for a while, allowing the battery to be charged from empty to 80 % of its capacity in around half Hour. On the Electrify America network, Audi offers two years' worth of free, 250 kWh of charging.

2023 Audi e-tron Wildcard 6.5/10 -

The most concerning aspect of this car for us is how basic it seems to drive. Contrary to popular belief, EVs can have personality. In fact, competing EVs like the Ford Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and Polestar 2 all manage to do so, especially when compared to the e-tron. In its time, the e-tron was one of the most unique luxury EVs on the market, but today, it's one of the most mundane vehicles available. Hey, progress moves quickly.

Which e-tron is Our' top pick?

Any e-tron trim can be justified, but most purchasers would be content with the standard Premium trim. Although it doesn't have the head-up display or the Bang & Olufsen stereo of other trims, it nevertheless offers a well-rounded package and is the most cheap e-tron on the market.

The Audi e-tron Lineup -

A midsize SUV that is all electric and offered in a variety of trim levels is the 2023 Audi e-tron. The two electric motors that power the basic e-all-wheel tron's drive system (one at the front, one at the back). When the transmission is in Sport mode, the engine's maximum output increases to 402 horsepower and 490 lb-ft for up to 8 seconds. The engine's maximum output is 355 horsepower and 414 lb-ft of torque. There are three trim levels for this e-tron: Premium, Premium Plus, and Chronos.
