Ford F-150 Configuration, Review, Pricing And Specs

Pros -

A variety of engines, including forthcoming full electric and gasoline hybrid options.

Even from the hybrid version, the maximal towing capacity is staggering.

An entertainment system with a huge 12-inch screen that is simple to use.

There are other truck-friendly features available, such as an onboard generator.

Cons -

There could be more space or versatility in the interior storage areas.

When running the optional onboard generator, the available hybrid powertrain is noisy.

What's fresh

There is no longer a 3.0-litre diesel engine available.

On some models, a new Black Appearance package is introduced.

A model from the 2021 release of the 14th generation of the F-150.

Ford F-150 In Two Colour

There have been many recent changes to the pickup truck market. Midsize and compact "crossover" vehicles are more prevalent than they have been in years, but full-size trucks continue to dominate the market in terms of both sales and functionality. The 2022 Ford F-150, which had a complete makeover last year, is presently our favorite model in the segment thanks to improved technology, a large list of truck-friendly amenities, and a totally contemporary cabin.

The F-150 is available in a range of body types, bed lengths, and engine options, just like other full-size trucks. The 3.0-liter diesel option has been eliminated for 2022, but the F-150 Lightning, a forthcoming fully electric variant, will start selling that same year. Furthermore, Ford's Power Boost hybrid powertrain, which offers potent performance and impressive fuel efficiency, continues to be a viable option to full-size trucks. It might also function as a possible source of backup power for your home.

The Ford F-150 is a top pick among trucks in its class, as seen in our Expert Rating below, narrowly beating out the Ram 1500 and easily outpacing the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. There is also a brand-new Toyota Tundra that this year introduces its own hybrid version. In any event, we advise contrasting each of these options with the F-150. We're convinced that after a careful test drive, you'll concur that it's the perfect truck for the job.

Ford F-150 Front Bumper

We recently named the best-selling Ford F-150 as our Edmunds Top Rated Truck of 2021, and we have since added one with the hybrid V6 engine to our fleet for long-term road testing. The F-150 continues to perform admirably when it comes to conventional truck duties, but we want to experiment with Pro Power Onboard to better understand the hybrid fuel efficiency over 20,000 miles. See here for our reviews of the 2021 F-150.

Performance 8.7/10 -

How is the F-150 propelled? There are several different engines and setups available from Ford. We choose new hybrid powertrain in a 4WD crew cab in the Platinum model through its paces. It was tested by Edmunds and was found to accelerate to 60 mph in 5.7 seconds, outpacing pickup trucks with comparable equipment. Unfortunately, this powertrain lacks the smoothness at low speeds that you'll find in the 5.0-liter V8 and non-hybrid turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engines due to the sensation of the gas engine turning on and off. Across all powertrains, the 10-speed automatic transmission offers seamless and rapid changes.

Ford F-150 On Sliding Road

The F-150 has accurate and rapid steering. The truck feels smaller as a result, making it easier to manoeuvre in parking lots and more stable on the interstate. The brakes are powerful and give you faith in their stopping power even while the hybrid powertrain is recovering power. Due to its enormous payload and towing capacities, the F-150 is generally a fun vehicle to drive.

8.0/10 For Comfort -

What is the comfort level of the F-150? The F-150 might be a very pleasant truck, depending on the extras you choose and the ones you skip. The reassuring front seats may be heated, cooled, offer three degrees of lumbar adjustment, and even have a massage feature. Although you can almost completely flatten the front seats with the Max Recline option, they don't have the same level of comfort or side bolstering as the standard seats.

Ford F-150 On ICE

While the Ram's distinctive coil-spring rear suspension offers a little smoother ride than the F-150's, both vehicles ride rather pleasantly. Low levels of wind, tyre, and road noise are present. The majority of the F-150's available engines have cool sounds and aren't too loud. The exception is the optional Power Boost hybrid, which when it is charging the battery makes noises and vibrations like to those of a portable gas generator.

The powerful and efficient climate control system requires little adjustment to keep your preferred temperature.

Interior 9.0 Out Of 10 -

How's the interior? The configuration of the F-150 impacts the number of options and controls available. You never have to question what you're reaching for thanks to the interior's uncomplicated design. Most of the huge knobs and switches on the vehicle may be used while wearing gloves.

With a wide range of seat, steering wheel, and pedal adjustments, drivers of all sizes and shapes can find a comfortable fit. The crew cab's spaciousness means you won't need more room. The ample external visibility is aided by large windows and a scalloped space in the front door that permits vision past the side mirrors. The optional surround-view camera system also provides 360-degree visibility.

Technology 9.4/10 -

How is the tech? The F-150 has a wealth of amazing technological features. Digital gauge cluster and 12-inch central touchscreen are appealing and simple to use. As well as certain fundamental enhanced driver safety features, smartphone integration for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is standard. And there are choices for a tone more features.

Ford F-150 Technology

The Pro Power Onboard option, which essentially transforms the F-150 into a generator, is the most astounding feature. This feature adds power outlets in the bed that change the tailgating party, camping, construction, or off-the-grid experience. It is available in three power output levels depending on the motor (2.0 kW, 2.4 kW, and 7.2 kW).

Storage and Towing 8.3/10 -

How are the storage and towing going? The F-150 is now the best light-duty pickup vehicle for hauling and towing. The F-150 is capable of towing up to 14,000 pounds when properly equipped and configured. Maximum towing capacity with the PowerBoost powertrain is slightly less at 12,700 pounds. The Ram 1500 can pull up to 12,750 pounds, compared to the Chevrolet Silverado 1500's towing capacity of 13,400 pounds.

Ford F-150 Cabin

The F-150 now has a staggering 3,325 pounds of payload capability, which is more than 1,000 pounds more than its closest rival, the Silverado, which weighs in at 2,250 pounds. The bed isn't the largest, and unlike the Ram and GM trucks, it doesn't fold up like an origami tailgate. However, the tailgate step and power up/down feature are still useful.

Fuel Efficiency 8.3/10 -

How well does it use fuel? The F-150 has good fuel efficiency according to EPA estimates. An estimated 20 mpg combined for city/highway driving is achieved by the F-150 with rear-wheel drive and either the V8 or the 3.5-liter V6 engine. That is marginally superior to a Silverado or Ram with a V8 engine. It is anticipated that the new F-150 hybrid with 4WD earns a combined 24 mpg.

Fuel tank sizes range from 23 to 36 gallons, with 87 octane being the recommended fuel for all gas engines. However, we must point out that compared to EPA projections, Ford's turbocharged engines have underperformed in our years of testing.

Value 8.0/10 -

The F-150: Is it a good deal? This truck is nicely constructed and well-equipped, and the higher trim levels even have upscale features. The F-150's genuine worth lies in its broad selection of configurations and extras that enable customers to customize their vehicle to their needs, in addition to its strong standard offerings that confidently line up against rivals.

22_FRD_F15_Ford F-150 Open Door Wide Angle

In contrast to GM trucks, you have more engine, cab, and bed options with Ram trucks, and you can choose the most desirable engine at the base trim level with GM trucks. Only in warranty and ownership benefits does the Ford fall short of GM and Ram rivals; otherwise, it provides comparable coverage.

Wildcard 8.0/10 -

The F-150 fulfils your desire for bragging rights. With the exception of the specialized Ram 1500 TRX, it has the most torque, the fastest acceleration, the highest estimated non-diesel fuel economy, and the highest towing and payload capacities. To friends and neighbor's, you'll have the best bragging rights. In addition, the F-150 may be painted in some really unique shades like Leadfooted and Smoked Quartz. The exterior design, which has a front grille modelled after the one on Ford's Super Duty, is well-highlighted by the colors. Unfortunately, the interior lacks the cosines and presence that Ram, its closest rival, provides.
